Introduction to FEM in LS-DYNA Using the LS PrePost Visualizer

Learning Objective: Understand the Basics of Finite Element Modeling (FEM) as it is used in LS-DYNa.

Estimated Time: 1 hour to 1.5 hours

Instructions

  1. Read Palmeri 2005 here - one of the original important papers on how FEM was developed and validated for ultrasound elasticity

  2. Work through the tutorial below on how the different terms of FEM relate to one another

LSPrePost+GUI+Demo+Slides.pdf

Below is a video of what you should see if you successfully complete the tutorial above and look at the infinitesimal Z strain in LS PrePost

Below is what you should see when you look at the Ndv Z displacement in LS PrePost after completing the tutorial above

It is strongly recommended that you repeat the tutorial above until you create videos similar to these, to make sure you understand what the underlying FEM tools are doing in the LS Pre Post visualizer. After this we will be moving to scripted commands and will not work with LS PrePost so it will be a lot harder to visualize what is happening.
